Reminiscing is probably something we all do from time to time. In a professional sense this often relates back to how we overcame adversity or achieved a hard won successful, well here’s an example of both, taken from our archives.
In this case, a failed 5 metre high retaining wall to the rear of a domestic property, posed a particular headache in considering a new replacement. With no access for plant or materials and a risk of further slippage, which would threaten the house itself, the options were limited.
The adopted solution was to introduce a 50 tonne mobile crane, able to reach over an adjacent single storey garage block and into the grounds of the property. Positioned within a road closure to the front of the property, the crane hoisted excavator plant and materials into place with in return excavated debris being lifted out in skips.
After the construction of a concrete foundation the 500mm wide Leromur dry-build stone finish wall began to reinstate the earth slip, using Betonap geo-grids to form a composite mass wall structure, that filled into the slip profile.
The works were significantly completed over a period of two weeks, during which the owners holidayed in Florida, blissfully unaware of the operations.
