As one of the UK’s most popular holiday destinations Cornwall has a scarcity of uncongested arterial roads and this has long been seen as to drawback for holiday makers heading to the county .Critically though it’s local businesses and residents who have relied on these roads not just for local needs, but for reaching beyond to the A38 Trunk Road and the M5 Motorway.

To address these issues National Highways has upgraded much of the A30 Trunk Road from single to dual carriageway. This latest project now means that the road from Camborne west to the M5 motorway is now fully dualled.

Of the 14km’s of new dual carriageway for this project 12.5km was offline, enabling the impact of the new road to be minimised, the original road being then redesignated as the B3285 and B3288 for local traffic. There remained however key points where the transitions had to be sensitively handled, with night-working minimising the impact on daily life. For this project 150mm thick Grasscrete GC2 paving featured at fifteen locations in combinations of access tracks, laybys and verge hardening. At the key transition points installation was carried out under night closures. Now completed, Grasscrete enables essential access and hardstandings to be discretely provided, in Cornwall’s beautiful rural setting.
